Pregnancy Baby and You Magazine - September 2005

Michelle Cox is mother of Isobelle and Edward, 15 months. “My second pregnancy was with twins, and although I wanted a natural birth the doctors were dead set against it – they wanted me to have a caesarian. But somehow I managed to avoid it by going into labour before I was forced into a decision. However, the day I went into labour, the anesthetist was off duty, so I couldn’t even have an epidural! It wasn’t such a bad birth though – it took about eight hours all together. The main problem was that Isobelle, my first, was born an hour before my second, Edward – and apparently that can be quite dangerous for the second child. Anyway, both babies were born healthy which was great.

“However, as time went on it became clear that Isobelle was not a happy baby – her head looked very squashed, she was very grumpy and her mobility was poor. By 10months she still wasn’t able to hold her own weight or even nearly get into crawling position. I decided to go to a cranial osteopath, and visited the Plumb Blossom Clinic near me in Chelmsford. It was a revelation, Rob, the therapist, quickly diagnosed that Isobelle had been squashed in the womb and birth canal – hence the flattened shape of her head, and the stiffness in her hip. Rob focused on gently pressing the back of her skull, and the base of her spine, and by the end of the second session she was a new baby! She could stand on her own weight, and was much, much happier and more cheerful. She’s had three sessions now, and seems to totally enjoy them. And I’m thrilled with the results.”
